A flurry of new accessory listings hint at a significantly larger Nintendo Switch 2, moving the rumor mill into high gear. Appearing online, these listings include a carrying case and a tempered glass screen protector, adding more fuel to the fire as fans speculate about the next iteration of Nintendo’s popular console. The accessories strongly suggest that the new Switch model will be noticeably larger, bolstering suspicions that Nintendo might have already started its production.
Weltrend Electronics of Taiwan hinted earlier that production for the Switch 2 might ramp up by the end of September 2024. While it’s not confirmed if this is indeed underway, Nintendo’s latest financial outcomes reflect an odd spike in raw material reserves, which could indicate the start of manufacturing a fresh piece of tech. With global tech supply chains being as complex and sprawling as they are, leaks, especially regarding physical dimensions, often slip through the cracks well before official product launches. This is pretty common, as many of you might’ve noticed with smartphone leaks often shared via accessory listings.
Adding another piece to the puzzle, some purported Switch 2 accessories popped up on 1688.com, Alibaba’s well-known wholesale site. Among these, a carry case designed to house the Switch 2 caught the eye of a Famiboards enthusiast, lanamoon. This case, notably larger than its predecessor with dimensions of 290 x 135 x 45mm, contrasts to the original Switch’s slimmer 239 x 102 x 13.9mm frame. Even though this bulky appearance could partly be due to extra padding for protection, it’s clear the Switch 2 itself shouldn’t be nearly 45mm thick.
There’s more speculation that the Switch 2 will boast a larger screen, about 15% bigger than the OLED model, as the carry case dimensions suggest. Earlier predictions from analysts around early 2024 already pointed towards an 8-inch screen for the new console, a decent jump from the current 7-inch OLED model.
In addition to the carrying case, a new tempered glass protector reportedly for the Switch 2 also surfaced online. The store page images on 1688.com draw comparisons to an apparent Switch-sized protector, reinforcing the idea of a larger Switch 2. This seemed aligned with existing rumors of a significantly bulkier dock, likely designed to complement a larger console.
Nintendo has, on two separate occasions, committed to unveiling the next Switch before the fiscal year wraps up on March 31, 2025. This timeline suggests that we won’t see a Switch 2 launch before the second quarter of 2025, possibly even later.
