Meta has just rolled out a new section on the Meta Horizon Store showcasing the top 50 best-selling paid Quest games of all time. It’s not exactly a shocker that Beat Saber snags the #1 spot. Over the years, Beat Saber has turned into something of a cultural sensation, and two years ago, it had already grossed over $250 million, thanks in part to its downloadable content.
Coming in at #2 and #3 are the VR legends Job Simulator and Superhot VR. Both of these games have been around since the early days of consumer VR with tracked controllers back in 2016. They often appear on top-selling lists across other platforms, like PlayStation VR2 and Steam. Other timeless classics rounding out the top 10 include The Thrill of the Fight, Onward, and Vader Immortal Episode 1. Blade & Sorcery: Nomad also makes a strong appearance at #4 as a standalone take on a popular PC VR title.
It’s also interesting to see Guy Godin’s Virtual Desktop at #6. Sure, it lets you use your PC on a flat virtual screen and even create virtual side monitors since last year, but its main claim to fame is transforming your Quest into a wireless PC VR headset. This was a feature available before Meta’s Air Link or Valve’s Steam Link came onto the scene.
Population: One at #16 is worth a mention, mainly because it transitioned to free-to-play just over two years ago, which means all its sales happened between late 2020 and early 2023.
However, you might notice some absent heavy hitters like Meta’s AAA Quest exclusives, Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Batman: Arkham Shadow. This likely owes to the fact that Asgard’s Wrath 2 was gifted for free to every Quest 3 buyer during the first eight months of its launch, and Batman: Arkham Shadow has been bundled with Quest 3 and Quest 3S since Meta Connect 2024.
The introduction of the Quest+ games catalog last year could also be influencing this list. This service lets subscribers access popular paid games while subscribed, and they get two redeemable games each month, potentially affecting sales rankings.
While the list intends to capture the entire Quest platform since the original Oculus Quest’s debut in 2019, it also hints at the rapidly changing age demographics of Quest owners. Take Among Us 3D at #7, for example, or I Am Cat, holding steady at #23 despite launching in early access just 11 months ago.
