Alright, here we go. So SEGA — yep, that gaming giant we all know and love — just let the cat out of the bag about something I’m oddly excited about. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is under construction, or whatever you call game development, for the Nintendo Switch 2. Crazy, right? It’s gonna have this cross-play thingy with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. And rollback netcode. Not gonna pretend I fully get what that is, but it sounds fancy.
Okay, so this dude Siji Aoko, who’s like this veteran Virtua Fighter Projects producer, appeared in VF Direct 2025 Spring — honestly, not sure how I keep up with these endless updates — and said, “Hey, you’ve been waiting, but it’s finally happening!” Or something to that effect. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is jumping over to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Hallelujah, right?
Apparently, fans have been clamoring for this all over VF Discord and other places I assume I should know about but, well, don’t. The dev team’s listening (which, let’s be real, is kind of refreshing), and now everyone gets to throw down in Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., no matter what platform they own. It’s like gaming equality or something.
Cross-play support is in the works too. Which sounds like a techie way of saying you can battle your buddy on whatever console they love best. And rollback functionality from the Steam version is tagging along — might mean less lag? Or fewer rage quits, maybe?
Extra content’s promised. They’re tight-lipped about it, but I’m guessing it’s gonna be more than just new character skins. All this is supposed to make it more than your garden-variety port. So stay tuned, I guess!
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is getting the ultimate remaster treatment, apparently. You’ve got your good old Arcade and Rank Match modes, plus new create-your-own-tournament features. Up to 16 player leagues — sounds like chaos and I’m here for it. There’s also Spectator Mode, for those of us who sometimes prefer watching the action unfold. Like reality TV, but with more digital punches.
Oh, and SEGA’s highlighted a bunch of features for the original Steam version, which include stuff like rollback netcode (again), glorious 4K visuals, and high-res textures. I guess they’re making it a feast for the eyes as well as the thumbs.
Nineteen characters are up for grabs. Each one’s got its own style. Master ’em, customize ’em, make ’em look ridiculous or incredible with costumes and stuff. Sounds dangerously addictive.
And, naturally, you’ve got your Rank Match, Arcade, Training, Versus modes, all battling for your attention. Plus, you can crush opponents worldwide in tournaments and leagues now. So, ready your virtual fists, folks.
Still no clue on the exact release date, though — just waiting for it to pop up on the Nintendo eShop for the Switch 2. Soonish, hopefully! Maybe they’re going for suspense.
As a side note, there was a mention of some VF Direct 2025 Spring video. But let’s face it, you’re already on the internet. Probably a click away if that’s your thing.
