Wow. So, okay, 2007 feels like ages ago, right? Anyway, last week was a bit of a mess with the Switch 2. It basically shattered records with like, 3.5 million sold at launch or something crazy. But then, bam—nothing much in terms of new games announced. Doesn’t add up? Yeah, tell me about it.
So, what did we get in new game news? Here’s the rundown:
Sony gave us a peek at a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and this Mortal Kombat Kollection thingy. Weirdly, both are for the old Switch too. Then there’s Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds which, whoops, got delayed from the Switch 1 debut. Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s getting new characters, plus updates for Hitman and Street Fighter VI from the whole Summer Games Fest shindig.
Oh, and at Wholesome Games, we saw the Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar trailer. Future Games threw Call of the Elder Gods our way, no Switch 1 this time, though. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater demo—probably need to pre-order? Not entirely sure. And can’t forget about running into 007: First Light everywhere—seriously, it’s like unavoidable.
Anyway—not a ton for Switch 2, just five new games and some updates. Meanwhile, a boatload more for Switch 1. But, maybe that’s what’s expected at this point.
There are a gazillion Switch 1s out there still. Remember when PS2 shifted to PS3 and PS2 still got games until like 2010? Wild. And let’s be real, the PS3 price tag was a shocker back in its day. So, Switch 1 still getting some love for games like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends isn’t exactly rocket science.
And then there’s this whole thing about development kits for the Switch 2. Apparently, few select big shots got them, and some smaller indie folks too. The big reveal might’ve been early this year, but actual devkits flowing? Dunno, feels messy either way.
Now, about future announcements. Remember the Xbox Showcase? Modern Persona trilogy info dropped out of nowhere for PS4, PS5, Xbox…but nada for Switch until later. So, could we see some surprises for Switch 2 soon? Sure, but who knows.
Nintendo usually likes to handle their reveals all secret-like. With E3 out, a Direct could drop anytime, and you know they’d pick when I’m on vacation. Always happens. And hey, maybe we could see more about Super Mario World, Mario Kart World, or Metroid? Or those old Microsoft games popping up on the Switch 1 getting face-lifted for Switch 2? Stranger things, right?
Even though we had like two dozen games and a handful of upgrades on the Switch 2 at launch, people already start whining about it being “dead.” Chill. With over 3.5 million owners out there, the announcements will roll out, just wait for it.
