Review: Everdeep Aurora for Switch

Whoa, okay, so I went to PAX West back in 2023, and it was… well, let’s just say an experience. You know those games that just kinda vibe with you? That’s where I stumbled on Everdeep Aurora. Seriously, no enemies—just puzzles. Anyway, I left super curious and couldn’t wait to dive in deeper. So here we go.

## Searching for Mother

Alright, picture this: you’re a kitten named Shell (yes, a kitten), on a mission to find your mom. Everyone’s hiding underground because, oh man, meteor showers. Shell’s got this dinky drill and has to dig around—deeper and deeper. But as you go, things get wild with all these NPCs you meet. A girl can’t find her dog, a frog’s trying to fix stuff with his kid, and there’s a snake. Jeez, that snake swindles like, everybody. And there are otters—oh boy, they’ve got issues. Helping them? Totally a must. And of course, you get all these cool upgrades like a bigger drill. So, kindness pays, I guess?

## Highs and Lows of Exploration

Feeling the exploration thing? Because Everdeep Aurora is all about that life. Shell’s inventory gets stuffed with random hats, batteries for the drill, and these documents? They tell the lore (confusing, but hey). Graphics scream Game Boy Color, but then there are dice games, crane games, and some retro scenes. It’s honestly a mix of everything—multiple endings too. Discovering stuff is like, the best.

But here’s the kicker… it gets annoying. No waypoint markers? Really? Got lost more than once. You think helping characters would clear things up. Nah, still like a maze down there. Maybe a radar system could’ve been cool here. And a quest log wouldn’t have hurt, because my memory’s not exactly perfect? Oh, and on Switch? Jitters all over the place. Not ideal, for sure.

## A Journey Worth Completing?

Tough call, honestly. Everdeep Aurora hits me as sorta, I dunno, a mixed bag. Love the music, graphics are a nice throwback, and no combat is a nice touch. The characters are fun, but again, so lost sometimes. Throw in a few guide points, and this could’ve been great. As it stands? If you get frustrated easily when wandering aimlessly, well, maybe—eh, up to you.

In summary, if you’re into chill vibes and don’t mind some aimless wandering, go for it. It’s got charm but also kinda lacking in the direction department.
