Oh boy, so Meta’s gone and done it again. Zoom in VR — what a time to be alive, right? They’ve squeezed an official Zoom app into the Horizon Store. Imagine rolling into your next meeting as a full-on Quest avatar. Why? No idea. But hey, it’s there.
Now, Zoom in VR isn’t exactly new. Back in 2021, the bright minds at Meta had already shoved Zoom into Horizon Workrooms. That’s their big virtual meeting space thing, where you could plop webcam folks alongside VR users in one big, oddball digital room. Face-to-face chats but… virtual face? Kinda funny to think about.
This shiny, new app is all about Zoom, not the other stuff. You just grab it for free and presto, you’re in. Meta’s calling it a “seamless extension,” whatever that means. Probably jargon for “it works, we promise.”
Oh, there’s a picture here too. Nice pic Zoom Communications! Someone’s working overtime on those snaps.
Instead of the immersive vibe, this version has you as a Horizon Worlds avatar in a basic meeting. Picture it like those old-school 2D projections, but your avatar’s the star, making you look… well, like a cartoon. Really, avatars have come a long way, but still. Seeing that compared to Apple’s slick Persona on Vision OS is like apples and… cartoons? Anyway, Vision Pro had their own dance with Zoom Personas back as far as February 2024. Early birds, eh?
Free is free, though. Curious folks can just hop onto the Horizon Store, snag the app, and log in with their regular Zoom deets. Soon, you’ll be yappin’ away as a digital doppelganger. Feels kinda Black Mirror, doesn’t it?
