Nintendo Switch 2… man, already hitting some walls, figuratively speaking. So, there’s this Donkey Kong Bananza thing, and yeah, the tech’s getting a bit too fancy for its own good. Kazuya Takahashi — he’s the brain behind it — was chatting with some Spanish paper (La Vanguardia or something?), and kinda admitted, “Yeah, the game might slow down a bit,” because it’s packed with all this wild 3D voxel stuff. Crazy, right? Dude’s all like, “Fun over speed,” which I get, but also, do we really want lag?
And there’s this trailer floating around — sorry, got lost looking at the thumbnail, DK looks wild in it. Originally, this game was gonna be on the old Switch, but nope, they pushed it for the Switch 2. Why? Because DK can now punch through walls, dig tunnels, and basically wreck stuff, which sounds fun if you can handle a jitter or two.
Anyway — hang on, what was I saying? Right, the switcheroo to the Switch 2 makes sense because these destructible worlds need serious power to run, and they didn’t wanna tone down the madness.
Now, La Vanguardia asked Takahashi about the “frame drops.” Honestly, kinda hilarious picturing the game sputtering. But he’s like, “We put in slow-mo and other effects on purpose, so when the scene gets chaotic, yeah, it might pause for a sec.” Sorta makes sense? Fun’s the priority, he says again. So prepare for some hiccups on your adventure.
Nintendo knows about this, thank goodness, so maybe they’ll tweak some settings or boost stuff with updates. Fingers crossed it doesn’t become the talk of the town for the wrong reasons. Or maybe they’ll just crank DLSS.
Oh, speaking of old tech — remember back in ’92, Comanche: Maximum Overkill was doing voxel stuff. Nuts! Somehow, they got that engine purring in assembly language, no less. Mind-blown.
Anyway, Donkey Kong Bananza’s out this Thursday, July 17. Feels like a big deal. Don’t miss it, unless you want to live vicariously through headlines. Catch updates on Tom’s Hardware because who doesn’t love a good scoop?
There’s this newsletter you could sign up for, too — looks like they send news straight to your inbox. Handy if you’re into that. Alright, going to wrap this up here. Gotta go see if my old consoles still work.
