In late April 2025, the remaster of “Turok: Dinosaur Hunter” received a significant update, marking a new chapter for fans of this classic shooter. With over 40 changes that touch on everything from audio enhancements to game balancing and bug fixes, the update aims to refine and elevate the gaming experience.

Nightdive Studios, the team behind this remaster, has already brought three Turok games into the modern era. “Turok: Dinosaur Hunter” was the first, hitting PCs in 2015, followed by releases for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2018 and 2019. Since early 2021, it’s also been available on PlayStation.

This latest update brings particular excitement for PC players with improved modding support. Mod enthusiasts will find a more streamlined experience, thanks to smarter menu options within Steam Workshop. For instance, the mod selection menu is now less cluttered, displaying only the maps from installed mods. Additionally, the game’s rendering pauses when you alt-tab out, enhancing multitasking.

The update isn’t just about mods, though. It addresses Vulkan graphics API sync issues and refines the game’s logic to reduce stuttering. Gamers can now tweak the automap line thickness to fine-tune the mapping visuals further, creating a fresh yet familiar feel reminiscent of its 1997 origins.

A few fan-favorite features make a comeback, like the cheats for tiny enemies with big heads, now working properly for bosses and Turok. Notably, tweaks to the gameplay ensure that the bullheaded Campaigner boss is more challenging, with his shield now functioning as intended by absorbing specific weapon types until destroyed.

April’s update followed another earlier in February that moved the game to Nightdive’s Kex Engine 4.0. While that overhaul was long planned, this recent patch came quicker, driven by player feedback—a testament to Nightdive’s commitment to community engagement.
