Hey, so, I was thinking about this thing. You know how those Full Motion Video (FMV) games are having a bit of a moment again? They kind of remind me of flipping through those old choose-your-own-adventure books but, like, on a screen. Weird, right? Anyway, I tried out this game called “Dead Reset” by Dark Rift Horror. Oh man, it’s a trip.
So, picture this: there’s this guy, Cole Mason, a surgeon who just kind of… finds himself flat on the floor of what looks like a space station. Imagine waking up and bam—space. Anyway, this guard yanks him up, drags him over to a table, and there’s this patient with a “what the heck is that” situation under her abdomen. They push him to cut into her—like, tension through the roof—and, as you’re pondering your life’s decisions, you’re given these little choice moments. Like, do you go all hero mode and grab the gun? Or maybe bolt for it? But nah, I stuck around, and things went south fast. Picture an alien bursting out… yikes.
Then boom, Cole snaps back to start, realizing he’s stuck in this bizarre time loop. It was just the taste of the first chapter, but we went through a bunch of loops. One time, I got Cole’s arm blown clean off—ouch—trying to mess with this gun that needed ID. Eventually, I nailed the right choices and managed to sort of contain the alien critter. But where to from there? Total cliffhanger.
Now, here’s what I really dug: the actors seemed super into it, like they were genuinely having a blast. Sure, a couple of tense moments felt a bit off, but hey, nothing’s perfect. They cram so much into such a short time—and some chats felt like first-date awkward but make it quick ’cause, space disaster looming. Anyway, it’s horror, right? People gotta get buddy-buddy fast.
And the gore—oh man, it was pretty in-your-face. Think alien guts and screams kind of situation. The alien, though, just the right amount of not-too-silly. Gunshots gave me major flashbacks to those old-school arcade shooters. But hey, they managed to avoid crossing into cheesy territory. Respect.
Honestly, my time with Dead Reset was a bit of a rollercoaster, but in a good way. It’s like they opened the curtain a bit, teasing that juicy mystery with Cole and the whole alien drama. The crew had some real moments, I gotta say. Can’t wait for more once it drops on the eShop. Mark your calendar for September 11th if space horror is your jam.
