Alright, let’s dive right in. So, Stainless Games – you know, the folks behind Carmageddon – just decided to shake things up a bit. This guy, Ben Gunstone, he’s now running the show as the CEO. Kind of wild, right? He’s stepping into some big shoes, those of Patrick Buckland, who’s basically been the Captain of this ship since, what, 1994? That’s like the year I tried wearing flannel to fit in and it didn’t really work out.
Gunstone didn’t just pop up outta nowhere though. Joined them back in 2022 as a game director. Sounds fancy, huh? Just three years later, bam, he’s the operations director. And here we are, with him as CEO. Before all this, you might’ve bumped into him at Dovetail Games for about a year. Not literally, of course, unless you’re a time-traveling game dev conference attendee.
Oh, and he’s pretty stoked about this CEO gig. Said something about being honored and all – while also probably pinching himself, thinking “Is this for real?” He’s got Buckland sticking around as Executive Chairman, kind of like the cool uncle who teaches you about life while sneaking you candy.
Buckland had this cheeky little quip about being 62 soon but claiming he doesn’t look over 70. (I don’t know how he pulls that off either, maybe it’s all those late nights coding?) Anyway, he’s sliding over to focus more on his love – yep, making games. Says he’s still the main shareholder though, so in a sense, Stainless is his precious little project.
Wrapping up, both guys sound pumped for what’s next. Onwards and upwards, they say. Which, honestly, makes me think of a chalkboard motivational quote, but more power to them, right? Here’s to hoping they keep cooking up great games. Cheers to messy transitions and keeping it real!
