Okay, so here’s the thing. I stumbled onto this wild rumor that Apple’s finally getting into the VR game with motion controllers—yeah, for real. But hold on, because it’s through this kinda surprising team-up with Sony of all companies. Supposedly, they’re bringing in the PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers—like, what? This could drop anytime, maybe even next week.
Apparently, visionOS is gonna play nice not just with those Sony gizmos but also with PlayStation and Xbox controllers. Talk about spreading the love, right? But get this, no one’s 100% sure if Apple’s gonna spill the beans at their big shindig next week—WWDC—or if they’ll keep us guessing until later. They’re shaking things up with visionOS 26, and even renaming macOS and iOS. Why? Honestly, no clue. Maybe it’s just to keep us on our toes.
Side note: there’s this crazy image of Hideo Kojima with the Vision Pro floating around. Not sure why, but it totally gives me a laugh every time.
Anyway, back to Apple’s Vision Pro. It dropped like a bomb earlier this year, priced at a cool $3,500. So far, it’s only been using hand-tracking and Bluetooth stuff. A bunch of developers have been scratching their heads over this, because, shocker, not every game works great with just hand-tracking. Adding motion controllers could mean a ton more games, and I mean the really good ones, might hit the Vision Pro’s App Store soon. Fingers crossed?
But let’s not get crazy. Even if the PSVR 2 controllers come on board, I doubt it’ll suddenly make the Vision Pro fly off the shelves. I mean, it’s more of a “spatial computer” than a gaming console anyway. Although, who knows if Apple’s plotting to drop cheaper versions with these new controllers? That’d be something, right?
Oh, almost forgot! Some guy, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, he was saying Apple’s been flirting with Sony about these controllers since early 2024, even though, funny enough, Apple had just announced they weren’t into making or using VR controllers. What’s up with that?
Anyway, the big keynote’s gonna be wild. It kicks off Monday, June 9th, at 10 AM PT if you’re into that sort of drama. You could catch all the action live on Apple’s YouTube Channel. Should be a trip.
