Whoa, so Borderlands 4, right? I guess when they first showed it off, it kind of didn’t set the world on fire like they probably wanted. Nothing was really wrong, but it’s like… nothing popped? Like, you know when you get cookies and they’re just meh? That’s kind of the vibe from the first trailers. Folks still had their doubts ’cause the last games, Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, left some people scratching their heads.
But hang on — Gearbox and Sony did this PlayStation State of Play thing just for Borderlands 4. Like, all eyes on it. They showed 20 minutes of gameplay, raw and unfiltered, with some dev talk about new stuff coming. Expectations were low, but boom, people were like, “Whoa, maybe this isn’t too bad!” Almost a turnaround moment, but then… the drama hit again. Gearbox’s co-founder, Randy Pitchford, said something that rubbed people the wrong way. Typical, right?
Anyway — oops, before I forget, there’s a pic floating around of some Borderlands review-bombing. Yeah, gamers are mad. Maybe steam venting? Not sure.
Randy, now this guy, he told someone on Twitter when they asked about the $80 price (ouch, right?) for Borderlands 4, that “real fans” would just figure out how to get it. Reminded everyone he bought a game way back in ’91 for the same price working at, get this, an ice cream parlor. Like, really? Fans kinda blew up. They’re like, “Dude, it’s not about loyalty, it’s about money.” But hey, seems like $80 could be the new norm, ’cause Microsoft and Nintendo are thinking about it too.
It’s funny, no one even knows the exact price yet. Could be $70, could be $80, but Gearbox has a big budget here. Like, twice what they spent on Borderlands 3. Seems like they’re hoping a higher price helps them break even faster. Who knows what Randy thinks — maybe he’s crossing fingers it’s $80 so they can see quicker returns, or maybe he just loves ice cream stories.
If they go $80… yeah, sales might tank, or maybe they won’t. But $70 could mean not enough cash flow. It’s like, whatever happens, the price is gonna be a big deal.
Anyway, Borderlands 4 is set for September 2025, running on Unreal Engine 5. Multiplayer? Oh yeah, they have online co-op and all that jazz. Cross-platform too, so everyone can join in. Hope the fans are ready to dig their wallets, or maybe, dig their heels in. Fingers crossed for another update without the chaos!
